Ceremonial Fire Letter of Intent Deadline
Catharsis on the Mall exists to create accessible spaces for healing. We do this by expanding the bounds of expression, connection, and inclusion in public and civic places, through direct engagement in participatory art, political action, holistic modalities, and sacred practice that restores ourselves and our communities, fostering social change.
The Ceremonial Fire Letter of Intent is for any potential fire arts on the Mall. Whether a Temple, Effigy, Flow Arts, Propane Art, or other ceremonial practice involving the use of living flame, this application is for our community members to participate even more in the process. This flexible and open ended process should spark creativity in our community. As an applicant, expect to work closely and collaboratively with our permitting, safety, and finance departments from conception to completion.
Any sacred structures or sculptures that intend to burn wood or other consumable materials must take into consideration secondhand/repurposed materials as 80% or more of what will be burned. Liquid fuels will not count as a part of this requirement. Any structure intended to burn that does not comply with NPS regulations may need to be modified or risk not being approved for final burn. Please fill out the below questionnaire and we will be in touch soon with next steps. Please answer these questions thoroughly and with as much thought and intention as possible. Given that this is a letter of intent, we may respond soon to request further details before making a final decision.
Deadline is February 10, 2020.
